The number of mistakes you can make against something as simple as putting on a mouth mask is astonishingly high. We therefore take you through the different steps.

Today we are looking at how to put a mask on and off correctly.

It is simple with facemasks: you can have the best filtering fabric, but if you put on or take off your mask in the wrong way, it will lead to nothing. Hence the crucial phrase in the instructions for use: “A mask only works if you wear and remove it correctly it”.

It is important that the correct sequence of actions is respected. So we put them in an overview.

Putting the mask on

  • Step 1: Wash your hands with soap and water before touching the mask.
  • Step 2. Check the mask to make sure there are no holes or tears.
  • Step 3: Hold the mask with the bendable strip facing up.
  • Step 4: Put on the mask according to the type of mask you use.
  • Step 5: Shape or squeeze the nose strip to conform to the shape of your nose.

The mask with loops and stopper; first bring the loop over the head without a stopper, position the mask for chin and mouth, stick to the loop with stopper and pull it over your head, then adjust it with the stopper so that the mask covers the nose, mouth and chin.

A face mask with ear loops; hold both ear loops, gently stretch and hook behind ears so mask covers nose, mouth and chin.

A face mask with ribbons; tie the top bow first followed by the bottom bow so that the mask covers the nose, mouth and chin.

A face mask with elastic bands; pull the bottom band over your head and then the top band, adjust the mask so that it covers nose mind and chin.

Wearing the mask

Make sure to leave the mask on when wearing it. Avoid tinkering with the loops, the bottom or the nose strip. It is definitely not recommended to pull the mask under the chin. Or let it dangle on an ear. After all, any form of contact can cause contamination.

Remove the mask

  • Step 1: Wash your hands with soap and water before touching the mask.
  • Step 2. Do not touch the front of the mask as it may be contaminated. Only touch the ear loops, ribbons or bands.
  • Step 4: Toss the mask in a lockable laundry basket, then fold it shut.
  • Step 5: Wash your hands with soap and water before touching anything else.

The mask with loops and stopper; release the stopper and pull the bottom loop over your head first, then the top, without touching the front of the mask.

A face mask with ear loops; hold and loosen both ear loops and gently lift to remove the mask.

A face mask with ribbons; First loosen the bottom bow, followed by the top bow, pull the mask off without touching the front of the mask.

A face mask with elastic bands; lift the bottom strap over your head, then pull the top strap over your head, without touching the front of the mask.
